What's On

Reminder - Equine Influenza

All horses competing in official Riding Club competitions must have a valid vaccination certificate which undeniably relates to that horse, completed, signed and stamped on each line by a veterinary surgeon, who is not the owner of the animal. It must state that the horse has received two injections for primary vaccination against Equine Influenza given no less than 21 days and no more than 92 days apart. (Only these first two injections need to have been given before the horse may compete). In addition a first booster injection must be given no less than 150 days and no more than 215 days after the second injection of the primary vaccination. Subsequently booster injections must be given at intervals of not more than 1 year apart, commencing after the first booster injection. None of these injections must have been given within the preceding 7 days, including the day of the competition or entry into the competition stables. Annual vaccinations may be given on the same date each year but this is not recommended.

The vaccination certificate must under penalty of elimination accompany the horse to all official competitions and the competitor is responsible for producing it on demand.

NB. Any competitor whose certificate is found to be incorrect will not be allowed to compete so to avoid disappointment on the day ensure that a photocopy is sent to the organiser in advance with your entry and it is your responsibility to ensure it is correct.

BE Press Release

In case you haven't seen the following BE Press Release, BE have decided not to implement the FEI-inspired rule change for their domestic competitions.  As I mentionned at the recent meeting, BRC normally follow their lead and were intending to implement the change from today, so we will be glad not to have to change after all.   This will mean that all stays the same as the Rule Book at Offchurch

British Eventing not to implement controversial ‘one fall and out’ ruling

In the lead-up to the FEI implementing the new ‘one fall and out’ Rule from August 1, British Eventing (BE) has announced that it intends not to make any change to the current rule at any of its affiliated competitions.

Iain Graham, Chairman of the BE Safety Committee says: “The timing of the FEI ruling on ‘one fall and out’ gave us little opportunity to carry out the necessary research, consultation and consideration which would normally precede any such change in the national rules.

“At the time, the BE Sport Committee reluctantly felt obliged to follow the FEI position and implement the ruling from August, whilst carrying out its own thorough investigation of fall data accumulated since 2001.

“Having pressed on with its analysis, and following further discussion with medical advisers, the Sport Committee concluded there was no strong evidence on which to base the proposed change and will leave the current Rule unchanged in national competitions, thus allowing a rider to continue after a fall, at a cross country fence, if safe to do so.”

Mike Etherington-Smith, BE Sport Director says: “I am delighted with the decision by the Sport Committee and Board to continue under the current ruling, giving our members support as they progress with the training of their horses, and education of the rider, from Intro classes upwards.”

All fall data will regularly be reviewed by the BE Sport Committee and BE Board.
