| Enter two – win two. Enter three – win
three. No, not a game – Annie Denton with Malingold Mercury
at the LSE Dressage to Music Championships. Annie capped last
year’s performance by taking all three Championship classes.
This is Annie’s last year in these Championships and she
has certainly gone out on a high note. Her comment after the
competition was –
“I really look forward to this competition each year as
it is such good fun. More people should have a go as they would
soon be hooked.”
Nicola Holehouse who won both the Plain Clothes and Pas Seul
in the Open Sections is in her final year as a vet student and
says she has to juggle her riding in between her studies. We
were pleased to welcome judge Deirdre Robinson again this year
with her Highland ponies, Burnside Holly and Trailtrow F. E.
Deirdre’s partner in the Pas de Deux, Sian, had only recently
started riding Trailtrow following the sad loss of Trailtrow’s
foal and Sian herself becoming horseless just prior to the Quadrille.
Much thought goes into the costume and competitors made every
effort to ensure that the costume fitted the music. Choice of
music was wide ranging from the Scottish Highlands to South Pacific.
Although the standard was high, the number of entries this year
was disappointing, particularly in the costumed sections. Deirdre
says she always likes coming to our Championships, particularly
the costume classes where the ponies can compete on more or less
equal terms with smarter dressage horses.
After one of the judges had to pull out at short notice, we
were most grateful to Jane Kendall for taking on the whole day
including presenting the trophies.
This very special day is enhanced by our music maestro, Sara
Green, who keeps the whole event running with commentary and
music to provide a real Championship atmosphere.
